Too Much Excitement – Unclogging the Drain With Vinegar and Baking Soda
We put a lot of miles on the sink in our kitchen every week, and sometimes, it can drain a bit slowly. I decided to try a DIY recipe for drain cleaner that I found on the boards. The photo on Pinterest looks like this:
Like I said, the drain is just a little slow, especially when you empty a large pot or bowl of water into it.
The instructions say that you should cover the drain with a towel or something to prevent overflow, but I didn’t have any problems like that at all. There was some fizzing, but it wasn’t like that time on the Brady Bunch when Peter made the volcano.
So I put in the baking soda…
…added the vinegar and waited for thirty minutes. Then I poured some boiling hot water down and followed that with a tap water flush for about a minute.
The results were encouraging. The sink did drain a bit more quickly. It may even have worked better if there wasn’t a garbage disposal on this drain. I will try it upstairs in the bathroom and let you know.
