DIY Lavender Bath Salts – A Little Homemade Relaxation

This week I am putting together a basket of homemade spa products for a friend who just had her fourth baby and is, to say the least, feeling a little stressed. There were several recipes for bath salts on the boards, but the one I chose came from the Patron Saint of Crafters, herself, Martha Stewart. I have tried to do Martha Stewart things before, with limited success. The worst was an attempt at making fortune cookies to serve as wedding favors. The best thing about it was the laughs my sister and I had trying to race the cookies into a folded shape before they hardened, which was less than 20 seconds. There’s a reality show in there somewhere, I think…

Anyway, the photo on Pinterest looks like this:

So, I assembled the ingredients:

  • Coarse Sea Salt
  • Epsom Salt
  • Baking Soda
  • Lavender Oil
  • Food Coloring

First I put about 600 ML of sea salt into the bowl.

Then I added 300 ML of epsom salt,

and then 100 ML of baking soda.

Next, I put in about 10 drops of lavender oil, and to turn the whole thing purple, some food coloring.

Once it had been mixed together, it developed a purplish hue, and I decided not to try to go any darker.

And then I put it in a jar and made it look a little fancy.

That’s about as close as I can get to the “Martha Stewart” presentation.

I also tried a little in my own bath last night. It smells great and feels very relaxing!
