Homemade Bacon, Egg and Cheese Dog Treats
Lately, I have been thinking of trying my hand at homemade dog treats, and there were several recipes on the boards that I plan to try. But first, I wanted to start simply, with ingredients I already had in the pantry. So using ideas from other recipes, I came up with this one on my own.
Ingredients:
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup + 1 TBSP low-sodium, low-fat plain chicken broth
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp Kosher salt
- 3 strips of bacon, cooked and crumbled
- 1/2 cup shredded cheese (I used Monterey Jack)

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees, and begin with the flour in the mixing bowl.
Then, add a little bit of the broth, and the egg.
Add the rest of the broth gradually until you get a ball of sticky-ish dough.
Crumble the cooked bacon and add the cheese to the bowl,
and mix until they are evenly incorporated.
Roll the dough out into a 1/2″-thick disc, or reasonable facsimile.
And then cut into the shapes of your choice. (Next time, I might do cats or squirrels.)
Place the cut-outs onto a baking sheet. I like to use parchment paper to keep the edges and bottoms from scorching.
Bake 25-30 minutes, depending on desired crispness.
I would have liked them to be a bit more crispy,
but Poochie loved them just as they were!
